OUR SUSTAINABILITY PROMISE

Since 2015 we have been fortunate enough to have created an amazing community of people who are passionate and appreciate the modern experience of shopping with The Saree Room. As our brand continues to grow and expand globally, it was important for us to take a step back and evaluate our carbon footprint. Regardless of cost or additional time/effort required, our goal is to become 100% sustainable from our initial production to the point of you receiving your order. Although we are still in the process of making this a reality, and by no means are we perfect, we believe it is important to transparently share our efforts with our community and show you the steps we are taking to achieve our goal of becoming 100% sustainable.

STEP 1: SUSTAINABLE FASHION - COMPLETE ✓

We've been a brand since day one, who has never believed in the tradition of the typical purchasing behaviour for South Asian fashion - purchase 1 outfit for 1 event and likely never wear it again.

All of our pieces are sold separately for two main reasons:

1 - This allows you to mix and match our items, with pieces you may already have and/or allows you to create a wardrobe of staple pieces which can be worn several times in a variety of different ways to multiple events.

2 - Not only does that offer customers a more economical way to shop for South Asian fashion but it also significantly reduces waste and pollution. We are also currently working internally on developing a program that will enable customers to be rewarded if they send back their old gently used pieces. If you are reading this and like the idea, feel free to shoot us an email - we love hearing from you! :)

STEP 2: CARBON NEUTRAL - COMPLETE ✓

Because the earth is one giant carbon sink, removing an equivalent amount of emissions elsewhere in the environment has the same net impact as if your emissions didn't occur. Buying an instrument that reduces or eliminates greenhouse gases also creates a market that spurs the creation of additional carbon-removal projects.

A carbon offset is an instrument representing the reduction, avoidance, or sequestration of 1 metric ton (2,205 pounds) of carbon emissions. It's called an offset because it's used to compensate for an equal amount of carbon emissions elsewhere.

Carbon offset projects are verified by our third party partners to make sure that they indeed reduce, avoid, or sequester the amount of carbon that they claim.

Every-time you make a purchase, our system calculates the amount of CO2 emissions your order will use to be delivered to your door. The Saree Room then proudly purchases the equivalent amount in renewable energy credits thus offsetting your orders emissions - including the shipping from our manufactures in India to our warehouse in Toronto!

STEP 3: 100% COMPOSTABLE - IN PROGRESS

According to Greenpeace "the equivalent of a truckload of plastic enters the oceans every minute." Let that sink in for a minute... While it may be simple an effective for individual's to reduce their plastic use (by using a reusable water bottle, using your own reusable grocery bags etc.) it is our belief that in order to make a real impact, companies and especially fashion brands must make changes to help reduce plastic pollution.

Brands have a choice, and if they choose plastic instead of compostable materials, it speaks volumes about their disregard for our planet.

While our packaging for both garment and shipping are currently 80% compostable, our goal at The Saree Room is to have all of our packaging 100% home compostable by the end of March 2023.

Because simply put, it's the right thing to do!
